FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know about ordering, building, and owning an AmeriBuilt steel structure.
Nope — that's what we're here for. We'll work with you to create a free custom design based on your needs, lot size, and intended use. You don't need anything prepared ahead of time. Just tell us what you're thinking and we'll take it from there.
Absolutely. If you already have a floor plan or a specific layout in mind, send it over. We'll use it as the starting point for your design and engineer it to your exact dimensions. Many customers come to us with rough sketches, architect drawings, or just a general idea — we can work with any of it.
Typically no — attaching a new steel structure directly to an existing building involves structural and engineering considerations that make it complicated. That said, we may be able to help you come up with a creative solution depending on your situation. Give us a call and we'll talk through the options.
Yes — many of our customers do exactly that. Everything arrives pre-cut, pre-drilled and labeled with a custom assembly manual written specifically for your building. No welding required. If you're handy and have a couple of helpers, it's very doable.
That said, some customers prefer to hire a local contractor, and that works just as well. We'll provide everything your crew needs.
Absolutely. We work with contractors all the time. We'll provide stamped engineering plans, detailed spec sheets, and a assembly manual tailored to your building. Your contractor doesn't need any prior steel building experience — the documentation covers everything.
It depends on your county and the type of structure. Many residential and agricultural builds do require a permit, and we make that process as easy as possible. Every building comes with stamped structural engineering plans that are ready to submit to your local building department. Some rural areas have no permit requirement at all. We recommend checking with your county before ordering.
Once your final payment is made and your building enters manufacturing, delivery typically takes as little as 3 weeks, though lead times can be longer during high demand periods. Your rep will give you an estimated timeframe when your order is confirmed and keep you updated along the way.

Every AmeriBuilt building is custom engineered to your specific location. Wind and snow loads are calculated based on local code requirements for your county and state. Your building is designed to meet or exceed what's required where you're actually building it. There's no one size fits all number. When we design your building, these specs are built in and reflected in your stamped engineering plans.
AmeriBuilt steel buildings come with a 40-year manufacturer warranty on painted steel panels. This is a manufacturer warranty backed by the steel producer, one of the best in the industry.
Yes. Every building is built to order. You choose the dimensions, roof style, wall color, door and window placement, and more. No two buildings are identical. If you can describe what you want, we can design it.
Steel has some real advantages over traditional wood frame construction:
- No termites. Steel is not a food source, so you'll never deal with termite damage
- No mold or rot. Steel doesn't absorb moisture the way wood does
- No warping. Your structure stays true over time, no matter the climate
- Recyclable. Steel is the most recycled material on earth, making it an environmentally responsible choice
- Lower long term maintenance. Once it's up, a steel building requires very little upkeep
- Fire resistant — steel is non combustible
- Lower cost per square foot, especially for larger structures
Yes — free shipping anywhere in the continental US. Your building is loaded onto a flatbed freight truck and delivered directly to your property. See our Delivery page for details on site access requirements.
We require a 30% deposit to get started. This covers the design and engineering process. The deposit is fully refundable up until engineering is ordered. Once your building is approved and ready for manufacturing, the remaining balance is due via bank transfer before production begins.
