Everything You Need to Know
From understanding what a steel building really is, to ordering yours, to putting it up — we've got you covered every step of the way.
What a Steel Home Really Looks Like
A walkthrough of a real AmeriBuilt steel home — from the outside in.
How Steel Buildings Are Assembled
Every AmeriBuilt steel building arrives at your site pre cut, pre drilled, and labeled. Think of it as a giant, very precise kit. Every piece has a place, every hole is already drilled, and your custom assembly manual walks you through the whole process step by step.
No welding required. No fabrication on site. If you can read instructions and work with basic tools, you can build one of these yourself — and many of our customers do exactly that.
- All components pre cut and pre drilled at the factory
- Every piece labeled to match your assembly manual
- Bolt together assembly, no welding needed
- Custom manual written specifically for your building
- Our team is available throughout your assembly to answer questions
What's Included With Every Building
Every building comes with stamped structural engineering plans signed by a licensed engineer. These are ready to submit to your local building department for permits.
Primary framing, secondary framing, roof and wall panels, purlins, girts, trim pieces, and all fasteners. Everything needed to close in the building ships with your kit.
Not a generic guide — a step by step manual written specifically for your building dimensions, openings, and configuration.
Your building is loaded on a flatbed freight truck and delivered to your property at no charge, anywhere in the continental US.
A 40-year manufacturer warranty on painted steel panels. One of the best warranties in the industry, backed by the steel manufacturer.
The same team that helped you order is available throughout your assembly. Not a call center — real people who know your building.
What Can You Build?
Steel is one of the most flexible building materials available. The same pre-engineered system that builds a small backyard garage can scale up to a commercial warehouse, a church, a winery, or a full residential home. The structure adapts to almost any use case.
The clear span design means no interior columns eating up your usable space. Whatever you're building, the whole interior is yours to use however you want.
- Homes and barndominiums
- Garages and workshops
- Agricultural and farm buildings
- Commercial and industrial facilities
- Churches and community spaces
- Self storage, wineries, event venues and more
Engineer Stamped. Permit Ready. Built to Code.
These are not prefab sheds or glorified trailers. AmeriBuilt steel buildings are permanent structures engineered to the same code requirements as any traditional stick built home or commercial building. Every building is custom engineered for your specific location — wind loads, snow loads, and local building codes are all factored in.
That means your building is designed to handle what the weather in your county actually throws at it. Not a national average. Your actual location.
Because our buildings are permitted, engineered, and built on permanent foundations, they can qualify for traditional financing and insurance. They appraise as real property. That's not something you get with a prefab kit or an RV classified tiny home.
- Engineered to your local wind and snow loads
- Stamped by a licensed structural engineer
- Permitted and built to residential or commercial code
- Qualifies for traditional financing and insurance

Start With a Free Custom Design
You don't need to come to us with a finished plan. Most customers start with a general idea — a size range, a use case, and a rough sense of what they want. We take it from there.
Our team will work with you to design a building that fits your lot, your use, and your budget. If you already have a floor plan or a sketch, bring it — we'll use it as the starting point and engineer it to your exact dimensions.
Every building is designed to order — no cookie cutter sizes, no standard layouts. If you're on the fence about sizing, now is the time to think bigger. It's a lot easier to add square footage to a design than to a finished building.
A home, a garage, a barn, a commercial space? The intended use shapes everything — roof style, door placement, clearance height, insulation needs.
Think about what you're storing, how many vehicles, whether you need a workspace. We'll help you think it through — there's no obligation to order anything.
Your county and state determine the wind and snow loads your building needs to be engineered for. We handle all of that — just tell us your location.
What Type of Building Do You Need?
Every building we sell is designed around how it will actually be used. Your use case determines the roof style, interior height, door sizes, and structural requirements.
Full residential code compliance, foundation engineering, and stamped plans ready for your county permit office. Built to live in — not just store things in.
From a single car setup to a large multi bay shop. We'll size the openings and clear height to fit what you're actually parking or working on.
Clear span interior with no columns. Great for woodworking, fabrication, art studios, or any space where you need room to move and work.
Equipment storage, hay storage, livestock shelters, and working barns. We know what farmers and ranchers actually need from a building.
Warehouses, retail, self storage, churches, fire stations, wineries — if you need a commercial building, we've probably already designed and sold one just like it.
Living space and shop or storage under one roof. One of our most popular configurations — highly customizable and significantly more affordable than traditional construction.
Permits and Your Building Department
The stamped engineering plans included with your kit are formatted and ready to submit to your county building department. You don't need to hire a separate engineer or architect. Most counties accept our plans as is for the structural portion.
Some rural areas have limited or no permit requirements, especially for agricultural structures. Check with your county first — we've worked with customers in counties across the country and can help you understand what to expect.
- Stamped plans ready to submit as is
- Foundation engineering included
- Wind and snow loads calculated for your location
- Our team can help you understand what your county requires
Call your county building department before you order and ask what they require for a steel building permit submission. The list is usually short and our plans cover the structural portion.
Deposit, Final Payment and Manufacturing
We design your building together at no cost. When you're ready to move forward, a 30% deposit holds your project and kicks off the engineering process.
Your design goes to our structural engineer. You receive your stamped engineering plans — ready to take to your county building department.
Submit your plans to your local building department. Some counties are quick, some take longer — factor this into your timeline.
Once approved, final payment is made and your building enters manufacturing. In as little as 3 weeks it's loaded on a truck and headed your way.
